JTrek is a personal security video/photo surveillance application that works on the most popular Smartphones, including Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Symbian-based devices.

Existing surveillance methods depend on the number of surveillance cameras deployed by private businesses and municipalities. JTrek's approach provides additional deterrence by giving all Smartphone subscribers the ability to video record and stream, or continuously photograph their surroundings whenever they suspect danger. This concept involves using a cellular Smartphone as a surveillance and personal security device.

More specifically, using the existing video and photographic capabilities of modern Smartphones, the video, audio, or photographic inputs are captured and transferred through wireless 2.5G/3G networks in real time to a remote Web server. If the user is assaulted while the phone is so activated, the stored video, audio, and/or photographs are saved on the Web for use as evidence in identifying the perpetrator.

Moreover, once the application grows in popularity and the public becomes more generally aware of technology used in this manner, the application will undoubtedly provide a degree of deterrence to other crimes.
